Nordic Sound Art

Nordic Sound Art joint study programme (MFA) has entered into its second phase and started with 12 new students. Five academies are pooling their sound resources and facilitate the programme together. The NSA partners are: the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art, Schools of Visual Art (coordinating institution), Malmö Art Academy, the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, Trondheim Academy of Fine Art and Bergen National Academy of the Arts. New programme coordinator is a musician and installation artist Jonas Olesen (contact: totem_tm@yahoo.dk).

The study programme is arranged as a series of 12 intensive courses or workshops. One course-module of the programme will typically have 2 weeks duration. The individual course-module will take place in one of the participating art academies (one course will be located in Copenhagen, another in Trondheim etc.)

The first NSA graduates completed the programme in the spring semester 2009 with a final exhibition at Museum of Contemporary Art, Roskilde. From the start NSA has had a distinct public profile and been marked by a continued dialogue and collaborations with external partners. Financial support from the Nordplus programme has been instrumental in this first phase of NSA.

In 2009 research fellow Karen Vedel carried out an evaluation of NSA. The evaluation report presents an overall analysis of the programme, including the collaborative aspect, and a set of recommendations. It may be downloaded here:
