Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo/Kunstakademiet / Norway

General Info

The National Academy of Fine Art Oslo offers a 3 year BA- course for visual artists in Norway. A 2- year MA- programme will be starting in autumn 2005. Our students do not enrol in particular departments, but have access to all workshops. The students enter an obligatory first term, where they establish basic technical and theoretical knowledge in all artistic methods. They participate in seminars about critical theory, philosophy and art history. The second and third year focuses on developing an individual art practice, a mature body of work and competence in theoretical and art practical questions through a wide range of workshops, guest teacher sessions, seminars, tutorials exhibitions and studio practice. Final term is designed to professionalize the artistic attitude of the students through a "learning by doing" process to prepare the graduate show, catalogue production and gain knowledge about sponsoring, taxes etc. During the course of study the students face a variety of evaluation methods. There is a balance between mandatory courses and open choices. A successful study contains 20% theory, 30% workshop and 50% studio practice.
